Niger State: Its Time For Governor Of Bida Extraction To Emerge

Niger State comprises three geo-political zones namely A, B and C. However, the leadership of the state (governorship position) hasn't favoured the headquarters of the Nupe people which is Zone A Senatorial District, Bida.

The Bida people, precisely Niger South, have been marginalised in the state’s geopolitics. This is in spite of the fact that the zone has always backed other zones to produce leaders into the top positions at state and federal levels.

The denial of the Bida people is not because of a lack of credible and hard-working governorship candidates from Bida extraction.
People of Bida have repeatedly expressed readiness to take the leadership position of the state to greater heights through seeking the support of two other constituencies and the support of the kingmakers in the state, including top political leaders and Royal Fathers ahead of the 2023 governorship election.

This election season has produced a uniquely credible Bida son for the top seat in the state.

To be precise, the Nupe speaking areas of Zone A, has been able to mentor and groom the son of the soil who has distinguished himself as a banker, businessman and politician.

Despite coming from a prestigious family, his humane and altruistic nature has earned him the love of his people and beyond. He is a trusted politician who has over the years built political bridges and empowered youths.

That son of the soil is none other than Hon Mohammed Umar Bago, who has represented Chanchaga, Federal Constituency for almost 12 years in the National Assembly. It is no wonder that they have elected him three times. His performance and humility and strong leadership charisma sets him apart.

He has never failed to do his work and never been found wanting for corruption or bias in his work to his people. Even when he represents so many different ethnic groups from his constituency in Niger State.

Due to his hardwork and sincerity to his people, they have now given him more support to contest for the governorship position which they have been seeking for so long.

He has however emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the recent primary election of the party.

But the support started from his home town of Bida where groups, youths and some key politicians came out in large numbers and agreed to make Hon Bago their sole candidate for the governorship position.

The other regions are also ready to go into alliance and to convince other local government areas in the state to make him the sole APC governorship candidate.

Therefore, it was not a surprise when the Youth Vanguard, a group comprising all the local government areas of Niger State, threw their weight behind Hon Bago as their governorship candidate for the 2023 general election.

The youth group explained that Hon Bago’s numerous services, including youths empowerment through scholarship schemes and provisions of healthcare facilities in the rural areas, informed their support for him as their governorship candidate.

They further called on the APC leadership in Niger State to give all the support to Hon Bago to emerge the party’s flagbearer for the 2023 governorship race while promising to mobilise people at the grassroot to vote massively for him to win the governorship election.

The appeal is for the people of Niger State to support a humane politician who has passion for improved welfare, sound youth education, women empowerment as well as initiate and implement pro-people policies.

Indeed he has been working hard for decades to see development in his state. He does not discriminate even as he is focused with a sound ideology.
