Bago Is The Most Visible Gubernatorial Candidate- Hamza Waziri

Hamza Waziri hails from Bida Local Government of Niger State. As a political scientist, public commentator, journalist, and a passive politician, he was recently appointed Chairman of the Niger State Media and Publicity Committee by the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC). He spoke to TMG about the position and how to achieve a successful outing for the party.

TMG》As a journalist, what is your interest in politics?

HW》As a political scientist, one should be aware that there is politics in every facet of our life, from family to organization and society as a whole. Don't forget that politics is simply defined as who gets what, where, when, and how? Therefore, it is not good enough to sit on the fence and be expecting that things would be done according to your philosophy or expectation. We are all politicians somehow, but, the level of your participation in politics is what our people use to categorize the class you belong to. I mean whether you are active,  passive, or not at all, you must exercise your civic rights for the betterment of society.

TMG》What values are you adding differently as a political writer?

HW》Just as I stated earlier, it is incumbent on every law-abiding citizen to participate in politics. However, let us take cognizance here that participation in politics does not automatically translate to everyone standing for election or being an active member of any political party, no. There are three kinds of people, those who make things happen, those who want to see things happen, and those who see things happen. If you don't belong to the first two classes, then push yourself out to at least the third class. You cannot fold your hands and expect to see things happen. I belong to the first two classes; I want to make and see things happen in my dear state, therefore I have to contribute my quota by shaping the minds of our people.

TMG》 Is your passion and drive what encouraged you to take more of an interest in Niger State politics?

HW》 Yes. We have been complaining that Niger State is politically docile, but our complaints can't change anything positively if we all decide to sit back and watch as events unfold. We have to rise, take charge and change the narrative.

TMG》You are a staunch supporter of Hon. Bago, the APC gubernatorial candidate. What do you see in him that's different from others?

HW》I see a lot: Niger State is in dire need of a change of narrative. When the state was birthed 46 years ago, the developments she witnessed within the shortest period were unprecedented. We were prosperous for greatness, but, all of a sudden things started going haywire.

Bago is a catalyst for positive change, I believe in his vision and am convinced beyond reasonable doubt that Bago means well, and being privy to his manifesto, I know he is going to succeed (In Sha Allah). The manifesto is not bogus and it is self-explanatory, very importantly, how he is going to execute it is well articulated.

TMG》Can you elaborate more on the Bago campaign and APC as a party in Niger? What are the chances of him becoming the next Governor of Niger State?

HW》Bago is the most visible gubernatorial candidate, to some people, Bago is the sole candidate Niger State has. People would often ask me when he will start campaign even before the flag-off, and I would be like what else do you want? Bago has been engaging with all people from different walks of life- Unions, Associations, and organizations, even with the physically challenged groups. He has been attending town hall meetings and strategic meetings with stakeholders so that there would be concrete agreement and not embarking on a jamboree kind of campaign where candidates escape being pinned down to make a serious commitment or promise that can be held against them. Bago means business for the State and I pray that Allah sees him through, Amin.

TMG》Some weeks ago, you were appointed as Chairman of the Niger State Media and Publicity Committee of APC by Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), what would you say to this and what are you doing to achieve the goals?

HW》Well, it is not as if I am better than everyone but my appointment is an indication that Tinubu's "Renewed Hope" mantra is not just a political slogan to win the election but to walk the talk. Hard work is recognized even though the appointment is an Adhoc committee that is expected to last till after the elections. However, the trust reposed in me to help to project and coordinate the publicity needs and the requirements of the campaign in general, is rewarding enough.

TMG》How far have you gone in your campaign to reach out to people as a member of PCC in Niger State?

HM》So far so good, Niger State is APC but we can't be too relaxed- we cannot rest on our oars. There is room for improvement, which we are already doing.

TMG》What are your ultimate plans to see Bago and Tinubu succeed?

HW》To change from the old ways of doing things. To see immediate and unprecedented development in my state and Nigeria, because I believe in the duo that they will both succeed In Sha Allah.

TMG》How do you view Niger State and Nigeria from 2023 when Bago and Tinubu succeed as Governor & President?

HW》Peace, prosperity.... As a state and country heading toward greatness, In Sha Allah

TMG》What advice can you give Nigerlites and Nigerians to vote for APC?

HW》Vote APC from top to bottom; the hope is renewed, and the presidential and gubernatorial candidates are goal-getters, and trust me, they will not disappoint, In Sha Allah. All the returning candidates and indeed the Party have learned from their mistakes and we are convinced beyond reasonable doubt that it would be difficult to make the same mistakes, especially with the caliber of leaders we are about to vote in, to pilot our affairs.

Thank you.
