A Friday Sermon: Embracing the Final Days of Ramadan
~~ Mahmud Ashraf
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh.
My dear brothers and sisters, as the blessed month of Ramadan gracefully nears its end, we find ourselves in the final days, a time of profound reflection and intensified worship. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Whoever fasts Ramadan out of sincere faith and seeking reward from Allah, will have his past sins forgiven." (Bukhari). Having reached this point, let us not squander the immense rewards still available to us. Allah SWT has bestowed upon us this invaluable opportunity, and it is incumbent upon us to make the most of it.
What then, should be the hallmark of a good Muslim brother and sister in these precious remaining days?
Firstly, intensify our Ibadah (worship): We must redouble our efforts in prayer, recitation of the Quran, and seeking forgiveness (Istighfar). Let us not merely go through the motions, but engage in heartfelt supplication and sincere repentance. These last days are a time to pour our hearts out to Allah, acknowledging our shortcomings and seeking His boundless mercy. Increase your voluntary prayers (Nawafil), especially Tahajjud, the night prayer, which holds immense spiritual significance. Remember the hadith which describes the night prayer as "a conversation with your Lord."
Secondly, strengthen our ties of kinship (Silaturrahim): The final days of Ramadan should be a time of reconciliation and strengthening our bonds with family and friends. Forgive those who have wronged you, mend broken relationships, and spread joy and kindness wherever you go. Remember the immense reward Allah promises for maintaining these connections, especially during this blessed month.
Thirdly, increase in charitable giving (Sadaqah): Ramadan is a month of generosity. Let us enhance our charitable giving, both materially and spiritually. Give Zakatul-Fitr, the obligatory charity, and also give generously to those less fortunate. Remember, every act of kindness, no matter how small, will be weighed heavily on the Day of Judgment.
Fourthly, engage in self-reflection (Muhasabah): Let us take this opportunity to deeply reflect on our spiritual journey during this Ramadan. What have we achieved? Where have we fallen short? Let us honestly assess ourselves, repent sincerely for our mistakes, and make a firm commitment to improve ourselves in the days and months to come. This is a crucial step for spiritual growth.
Fifthly, prepare for Eid: Let us prepare ourselves not only materially but also spiritually for the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr. Let the joy of Eid be a reflection of our spiritual growth and commitment to Islam throughout Ramadan. Let us approach Eid with humility, gratitude, and a renewed commitment to living a life pleasing to Allah.
My dear brothers and sisters, the final days of Ramadan are a precious gift from Allah. Let us not waste this opportunity. Let us strive to maximize our worship, strengthen our relationships, increase our generosity, and engage in sincere self-reflection. Let us emerge from this blessed month transformed, closer to Allah, and committed to living a life that reflects His divine guidance.
May Allah SWT accept our fasts, prayers, and deeds, and forgive our shortcomings.
Jazakumullahu Khairan.
