Image
Ola Aina, from Casual Kicks to Premier League Star and one of Super Eagles Hope Ola Aina's story is a compelling narrative of talent blooming unexpectedly.  The Nottingham Forest defender, currently a key player in a team vying for Champions League qualification, never envisioned a professional career.  His journey highlights how a love for the game, nurtured rather than driven by ambition, can lead to remarkable success. Aina's relaxed attitude towards professional football in his youth showcases a refreshing authenticity.  This initial lack of ambition contrasts sharply with the serious demands of elite-level football, but it also hints at a natural talent that transcends the typical "professional" mindset. This casual approach might even be an element of his strength, contributing to his ability to perform under pressure and maintain a calm demeanor on the field. His current form at Forest, considered amongst the best in the Premier League,  is a testament ...

Unlock the Health Benefits of Dates: A Nutritional Powerhouse

Image
Dates, the sweet fruit of the date palm tree, are a staple in many cultures, and their consumption significantly increases during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.  But beyond their cultural significance, dates offer a compelling nutritional profile that benefits everyone, regardless of religious observance. Ramadan and the Role of Dates:  For Muslims observing Ramadan, dates play a crucial role in breaking the fast (iftar).  The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is reported to have broken his fast with dates, establishing a tradition followed by millions today.  This practice is not merely symbolic; dates provide a gentle and effective way to replenish blood sugar levels after a day of fasting, preventing a sudden drop and the associated fatigue and dizziness. Their readily available sugars provide quick energy, while the fiber helps regulate blood sugar release, preventing spikes and crashes. Nutritional Powerhouse: Beyond their importance in Ramad...

One Boy's Murder, A Generation Lost: When Will Leaders Act?

Image
~~ Tenin Yahaya  The tragic murder of 10-year-old Abdalla Lawali, an Almajiri child in Adamawa State, tragically highlights the devastating consequences of the Almajiri syndrome in Northern Nigeria. This isn't an isolated incident; it's a symptom of a much larger, deeply rooted problem that Northern leaders have consistently failed to address seriously. The story underscores the core issues: Vulnerability and Exploitation: Abdalla's murder demonstrates the extreme vulnerability of Almajiri children. Left to fend for themselves, often without parental care or supervision, they become easy targets for exploitation, abuse, and even murder. The suspects' confession reveals a chilling disregard for human life, highlighting the societal breakdown that allows such crimes to occur. Lack of Education and Opportunity: The Almajiri system, far from providing education, often deprives children of basic rights and opportunities. Instead of receiving an education that could empo...

International Client's Day:  A Focus on African Women and the Businesses that Serve Them

Image
~~ Tenin Yahaya  March 19th's International Client's Day offers a crucial opportunity to examine the unique experiences of African women as clients and how businesses can better serve their needs and tap into their significant economic power.  While the general principles of client appreciation remain universal, understanding the specific context of African women requires a nuanced approach. African Women: A Powerful but Often Underserved Market: African women represent a considerable and dynamic consumer market. They are increasingly influential as entrepreneurs, business owners, and household decision-makers. However, this market segment is often underserved, with businesses failing to tailor their products, services, and marketing strategies to their specific needs and cultural contexts. Unique Challenges and Opportunities: Several factors shape the experiences of African women as clients: Access to Technology and Infrastructure:  Limited access to technology and relia...

Rivers State Emergency: Addressing the Rivers State Crisis, A Path Forward

Image
Dr. Aiyeku Olufemi Samuel Global Human Capital  & Energy Management   "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." ~ Martin Luther King Jr. The recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sparked intense debate and discussion. This drastic measure was taken in response to the lingering political crisis in the state, which has rendered democratic governance ineffective. Challenges - The crisis in Rivers State has been ongoing for 14 months, with the Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, demolishing the House of Assembly in December 2023 and failing to rebuild it. - Despite efforts by President Tinubu and other well-meaning Nigerians to resolve the crisis, the situation has continued to deteriorate. - The Supreme Court has also weighed in, pronouncing that the Governor's actions have effectively collapsed the legislature, e...

Tinubu’s Declaration Of State Of Emergency In Rivers State

Image
Fellow Nigerians, I feel greatly disturbed at the turn we have come to regarding the political crisis in Rivers State. Like many of you, I have watched with concern the development with the hope that the parties involved would allow good sense to prevail at the soonest, but all that hope burned out without any solution to the crisis. With the crisis persisting, there is no way democratic governance, which we have all fought and worked for over the years, can thrive in a way that will redound to the benefit of the good people of the state. The state has been at a standstill since the crisis started, with the good people of the state not being able to have access to the dividends of democracy. Also, it is public knowledge that the Governor of Rivers State for unjustifiable reasons, demolished the House of Assembly of the state as far back as 13th December 2023 and has, up until now, fourteen (14) months after, not rebuilt same. I have made personal interventions between the contend...
