AFCON SEMI-FINALS: MOURNING THE LOSS OF PATRIOTIC FANS
It is with deep sorrow that I express my condolences to the families of the Nigerians who tragically passed away while watching the semi-finals match between the Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana of South Africa. It is heartbreaking to hear about the sudden deaths of these passionate football lovers and supporters of the national team as they cheered on their team in that crucial game.
Among the victims were Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a prominent member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and former member of the House of Representatives, Chief Osondu Nwoye, a businessman from Anambra State, Alhaji Ayuba Abdullahi, Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University, and Samuel, a youth corps member serving in Adamawa State. They all reportedly suffered from shock and passed away while watching the game, with the referee's decision causing intense emotions.
It is truly devastating that these individuals lost their lives during the highly contested match that ultimately led to the victory of the national team, securing their spot in the finals.
The Ministry of Sports Development grieves the loss of these fans and prays for the peace of their souls. Their passing is not only a personal tragedy for their families, but a great loss for all of us. I encourage the Super Eagles to remain dedicated to their game and to bring home the championship in honor of these departed fans.
