Opposition Must Prove Alternative With Ideas, Not Insults Against Bago
In a true democracy, political parties win the heart of the electorate through strategy, ideas, and superior programmes, not through deceit, lies, insults and hate speech.
What I am observing in Niger State politics today is not campaign. It is envy. It is lack of education on what real politics is.
Especially from the opposition. If you want to unseat a ruling party in 2027, you must tell the people what you will do better. What is your alternative blueprint for education, healthcare, roads, agriculture, power/renewable energy and security? How will you improve on what is on ground?
Why resort to insults and blackmail against the ruling party and the Governor? That is not campaign. That is not political sense. And it will not win you the 2027 elections.
Let us be honest: No one can say the present Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has done nothing in the last three years. From Minna to the 25 Local Governments, every local is benefiting from the New Niger agenda — roads, urban renewal, agriculture, health and education. You may disagree on style or pace, but you cannot deny the work.
The government of the day has the structure to win the 2027 elections and will not afford to lose. That structure must now be put to full use.
But this is also a wake-up call for the ruling APC. You have the resources on ground to reach the grassroots — Honourable Commissioners, DGs, SAs, SSAs and Special Assistants. Use all of them. Let them go back to their wards and local governments. Let the people have confidence in you not just from the top, but from the bottom. Governance must be felt and explained at the grassroots.
My advice to all political parties in Niger State:
1. For the Opposition: Strategise. Do meaningful campaigns. Stop the hate speech against the Governor. Prove that your party is capable of winning in 2027 with ideas, not insults.
2. For the Ruling Party: Do not sleep. Mobilize your structure. Let your appointees become your foot soldiers of sensitization and service delivery.
In the end, Nigerlites are wiser. They will not vote for who insults the most, but for who serves the most.
The hate and insults in Niger politics today is too much. It is time to grow beyond it.
