I'm Proud Of Who I Am Today--- Aisha Auwab
Aisha Auwab is a Social Scientist, make-up artist and CEO, MUBASH,
an Abuja-based company that specializes in Bridal, daily and other types of make-up as well as providing beauty services. TMG spoke to her about her passion.
TMG> Describe your background-
Aisha> I come from Bauchi State, Katagum LGA. I'm the first of 6 children born to Alhaji Auwab and Hajiya Hadiza Auwab.
I graduated from the University of Abuja with a B.SC SOCIOLOGY and currently work as a Civil Servant. I also run a makeup business called 'MUBASH'.
TMG> When did you know you wanted to become a make-up artist?
Aisha> I've always had a passion for make-up since I was a child. I remember when I was young, my mum would dress me up and apply very light make-up on me. So by the time I grew up, so did the passion. I also see the way people beautify their faces and it gives me joy, so I decided to venture into the business.
TMG> What are your strengths?
Aisha> My generosity
TMG> And your weaknesses?
Aisha> Pressure
TMG> Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Aisha> I see a wonderful and successful businesswoman
TMG> What can you offer your clients that others can't?
Aisha> I try to make sure that each client who sits on my chair is as comfortable as possible and, not only will they leave with beautiful make-up and a smile but also with a surprise.
TMG> Tell us about an accomplishment you are most proud of...
Aisha> I'm proud of who I am today. Looking back to when and how I started, and where I am now, I know that I've achieved a lot.
TMG> Tell us about a time you made a mistake.
Aisha> I remember when I was still learning the ropes, I practiced on my cousin who was going to attend a dinner, and I used purple eye-shadow to countour her nose. She didn't realise her nose was purple until her friends teased her. Now we look back at those days and laugh over it; it was hilarious but then it was all part of learning.
TMG> What is your dream job?
Aisha> I believe I'm living it already. To be the CEO of my company.
TMG> Describe yourself...
Aisha> I'm a friendly and intelligent person who learns fast, works hard and has simple tastes.
TMG> Tell us how you have handled a difficult situation...
Aisha> I was patient while carefully thinking of possible solutions.
TMG> How would you deal with an angry or irate customer?
Aisha> Keep calm, apologise, offer and explanation and profer solution.
TMG> Tell us about a time you went above and beyond the requirements for a project...
Aisha> There was a time I was Ill but I had to try and fulfill a commitment I had made to a client.
TMG> The competion is stiff out there. How do you stand out?
Aisha> The competition is stiff no doubt but I try to always give clients my best and ensure they have a memorable experience.
TMG> What is your biggest failure?
Aisha> Honestly, so far, whatever I plan or set up has always been achieved. And even though there are mistakes, I don't see them as failures, rather, they are lessons. I thank ALLAH for making things easy for me.
TMG> What motivates you?
Aisha> New ideas and encouragement.
TMG> Who is your mentor?
Aiaha> My parents are my greatest mentors and supporters. My family and friends are always there to ensure they assist me in any way. In terms of my profession, I'll say Didi Ratti is the best mentor I've eve met. She's always there to guide, encourage and lend support.
TMG> Has there ever been a time you've disagreed with your client?
Aisha> No. I always ask clients of their choice, and if they are sure of what it is they want, we go with that.
TMG> How do you handle pressure?
Aisha> I don't like pressure but I always try to stay calm no matter the situation.
TMG> What gets you up in the mornings?
Aisha> This thought wakes me in the mornings: "Time to be successful"
TMG> What was the last book you read for fun?
Aisha> DESPERATE IN DUBAI
TMG> What do you like most about working in this industry?
Aisha> New ideas coming up every time and motivating others to stand up and do something for themselves in order to be self sufficient.
TMG> What are your hobbies and how often do you have time to let your hair down?
Aisha> Doing a client's face, playing games.
I always have time for myself.
