Hauwa Sarwa Aliyu is the Founder of MixYoAffair. It is a company that specialises in processed yoghurts in Abuja, Nigeria.

TMG> Please tell us about your background>

Hauwa> I'm a graduate of B.A English Language from Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.


TMG> How did you go into processed yoghurt making?

Hauwa> I have a passion for business, especially using my hands in making the products I sell. Starting a yoghurt business was a decision I planned for months; I love yoghurt a lot and I thought of bringing what I love to market and make money from it

TMG> Did you go to culinary or business school & what credentials did you earn through the training? 

Hauwa> Yes, I went to Nisa Distributions and Suppliers LTD and I have a certificate.


TMG> How did you actually start the business?  

Hauwa> I started my business little by little by making yoghurt for family and friends in small quantities and now the business is growing, Alhamdulillah.


TMG> How many employees report to you?  

Hauwa> For now I don’t have any employee but looking forward to.


TMG> Apart from yoghurt processing business, what is your favorite cuisine you know how to prepare best and why?

Hauwa> Party jollof rice-  that's a meal I have been longing to learn to make because of the hype by almost all Nigerians. When I tried it as my assignment, I was proud of myself that it came out well


TMG> How do you market your product and what response do you get from consumers? 

Hauwa> I market my product through social media platforms and I get good responses from my customers which makes me happy.


TMG> What do you do to stay educated about new trends?

Hauwa> I browse and use social media platforms a lot.


TMG> What do you do to ensure the best quality of your products goes out to customers?

Hauwa> 1. I make sure I taste my product before selling it out.

2. I ensure the packaging is good quality and attractive 

3. I provide good service for my customers.


TMG> Tell us about an accomplishment that you are most proud of in your career? 

Hauwa> I'm proud of the person I am today, Alhamdulillah.


TMG> Tell us 3 things that you consider to be your strengths as a business person?

Hauwa> 

1. Encouragement from my loved ones 

2. Getting good feedback from my customers 

3. Customers giving their suggestions.


TMG> What other things do you do as a business person?

Hauwa> 

1. I'm a professional beads maker 

2. I sell perfumes and wrist watches 

3. I make party  jollof and fried rice for mini events.


TMG> What are your challenges and how do you intend to handle them?

Hauwa> My challenge now is how to grow my business.


TMG> What other back-of-the positions have you previously held before going into food processing? 

Hauwa> I was a professional bead maker.


TMG> Who are your role models and what inspires you about them?

Hauwa> My Mother - she’s a woman with focus, a woman who supports her family in any good steps they take.


TMG> What way can you encourage other youths not to depend on government for jobs but to be self dependent? 

Hauwa> I have this belief that everyone has a talent, it may take a little time to discover it. And I believe everyone has passion for something, why not put your passion or talent into something and believe you will be happy. Not everyone is destined to have a white collar job.


TMG> Do you have time to socialise?

Hauwa> Yes I do, I have time for everything and my business is the kind that needs you to mingle with people.
