I'm A Born Optimist- Khadijah M. Ahmad

Khadijah M. Ahmad is CEO, MAHA, specialising in natural skincare
products. She talks to TMG about her passion as a beautician who derives pleasure in making people comfortable in their own skin.

TMG> Tell us about yourself:

Khadijah> I was born on the 9th of April. I'm from Borno state but grew up in Jos and the 3rd out of 4 children. I'm currently a 400 level student of Library and Information Technology at Federal University of Technology, Minna and I am married to a loving Nupe man and blessed with one child.

TMG> Why did you choose to become a beautician?

Khadijah> I chose to be a beautician because I derive pleasure in making people comfortable in their own skin irrespective of their complexion.

TMG> What excites you the most about the world of beauty?

Khadijah> What excites me about the world of beauty is the fact that you can use the easiest, cheapest and simplest things(food stuff) available in your home to make one look good

TMG> What makes you happy as a beautician?

Khadijah>What makes me happy as a beautician is being able to create natural skincare products packed with plant oils and essential oils to make the skin look vibrant and young.

TMG> What three words would you use to describe yourself while working on a customer?

Khadijah> The three words I'd use to describe myself are: Patient, Cheerful and Original

TMG> What are your challenges and how do you intend to handle them?

Khadijah> My major challenge is keeping cashflow going! I have invested a lot of money in the business, and it’s taken longer than I originally anticipated to get the brand known and grow sales. However, I really believe in my products and I will do all it takes to reach a large target audience. I am a born optimist, overcoming my challenges might only take longer but I'll definitely pass it. I have a clear vision of where the business is going and what the benefits will be to myself and others when it succeeds.

TMG> What do you do to stay educated about new trends?

Khadijah> I'm not a shy person when it comes to learning new stuff; I buy E-books, make good use of the internet to update myself on new discoveries and how it can better my skill. I still undergo online trainings too. Besides, no knowledge is ever lost no matter how small.

TMG> What makes your business stand out from others?

Khadijah> My business is unique from others because I'm sincere enough to tell a customer the do's and dont's associated with the use of my products. I also tell customers that my products are trully natural (organic) and takes a longer time before one sees the results of using natural products.

TMG> Tell us about an accomplishment that you are most proud of in your career?

Khadijah> The fact that I can help my family without having to look for help elsewhere is an accomplishment for me and with the little I know, I have helped a few people by letting them work with me.

TMG> Tell us about your management style and how you handle your Customers?

Khadijah> I handle my customers personally and very well. Especially during gyaran jiki (body care)or while using the skin products. I also interact with my customers to know exactly what will or what won't work for them. Although the lady who works with me helps but I'm always there to make it go well and smooth.

TMG> Tell us something you would like to learn or improve upon as a Beautician?

Khadijah> I would like to expand my horizon on Cosmetology Education and the use of Hi-Tech facilities to get proper skincare without causing damage to the skin.

TMG> What way can you encourage other youths that are interested in your kind of business?

Khadijah: My word of encouragement will always be 'start today, do not procrastinate, no business is easy and you don't not have to start big. You should also know that not having anything to do does not make you a lesser person'.

TMG> What do you do with your free time?

Khadijah: When I'm free, I'm mostly surfing the internet to get ideas on how to promote/grow my business
