Personality Profile of Ahmed Yahaya Alhassan:- Emergence Of A Forward Thinking Leader as the SUTURA LAPAI the First.

On 21st February, 2021, His Royal Highness, the Emir of LAPAI, Alhaji Engr. Dr. Umaru Bago Tafida III, FNSE, FNICE, CON approved the conferment of the royal title of SUTURA  LAPAI the first on Mallam Ahmed Yahaya Alhassan (AYA).

 

One may ask, what is the meaning of SUTURA for it to be given to a Prince of Lapai Emirate as SUTURAN LAPAI?

 

Sitr or Sutr is originally an Arabic word, which means a curtain or magnificent cover, a beautiful veil of Lapai. Also as a prayer, Ya Allah ka Sutur ta Lapai, meaning “oh Allah cover Lapai with a glorious cover, do not expose us or our faults, shield Lapai with the best of shields. Protect Lapai from ugliness or wretchedness, dress LAPAI in the best of fashion”.To add, ensure prevailing style is maintained during a particular time. Interestingly. We know that one of the attributes of SUTURA is good taste in fashion. SUTURA ensures a way of introducing LAPAI Emirate without having to say a word. SUTURA can tell the whole world about our personality just by the type of clothes, accessories, apparel, styles, designs and cultural leaning. The title is not only powerful and forward looking, but a positive one indeed. Looking good is good business as the saying goes but also ensuring adherence to general conventions of politeness and good values that society conforms. A  handsome Emir and a beautiful Lapai Kingdom in all its ramifications and glory is a major outlook for the SUTURA LAPAI.

 

HISTORY AND LINEAGE

 

The first Emir of Lapai Emirate was Etsu Umaru Daudu Maza the founder of the Fulani dynasty who reigned between 1825 and 1832. In a line of great and successful Emir’s up-to the present Emir Umaru Bago Tafida III, who is an Uncle to Ahmed Yahaya Alhassan. AYA’s maternal grandmother is Hajiya Habiba Gogocincin, a daughter to the 9th Emir of Lapai, Etsu Aliya Gana (Mohammadu Mainasara) she married Alhaji Ibrahim Kuchi, and they have a  daughter, Hajiya Hadiza (Yadi) Ibrahim Kuchi who is AYA’s mother. AYA is a descendant of full royal stock and blood in Lapai, Kuchi and Ebbo in Lapai Local Government. His ancestral lineage to the great Katsina Emirate through his Yantumaki forefathers is also an interesting history of note.

 

Born in Kaduna State on 3rd October, 1966 to the family of His Excellency, Ambassador (Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary) Yahaya Alhassan and Hajiya Khadija Ibrahim Kuchi, Ahmed Yahaya Alhassan hails from Ebbo, an agrarian village under Lapai Local government area of Niger State. He is the second in the family of eight children, fondly nicknamed AYA, and married with 6 children.

 

Education:

 

Education was an experience gained in both public and private schools. He had his early primary education from 1969 -1971 at Private School (PS151), Manhattan New York, United States of America then he later moved to the United Nations International School, UNIS, New York from 1971-1976. To experience life in Nigeria better, he was sent to Nigeria from 1973 – 1974 to attend the glorious Capital School Sokoto. 

 

His Secondary education began at Government College Bida in 1977, then he proceeded to St. John’s Secondary School Brussels for a year and finally the British School of Brussels, Belgium where he obtained a General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) from 1978 – 1983.

 

He came back to Nigeria for his University Education and became a pioneering student of Mathematics and Computer Science at the newly created Federal University of Technology, Minna in October, 1983. 

 

He bagged a Bachelor of Technology in Mathematics/Computer Science, thus opening up to him the world of Information and Communication Technology. 

 

He had the opportunity to attend and obtain a Certificate course in Journalism at the prestigious University of Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom in July 2001. He also trained as a Project Manager in 2013 at the USA Project Management Institute affiliate, Eco-Ways Limited.

 

He has a Masters degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy (MIAD) from the illustrious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria received in 2010.

 

AYA quotes a saying by Menachem Mendel Schneerson “When you waste a moment, you have killed it in a sense, squandering an irreplaceable opportunity. But when you use the moment properly, filling it with purpose and productivity, it lives on forever.” This is a guiding principle that Ahmed Yahaya Alhassan Sutura Lapai believes in, as such he continued to improve his knowledge and skill through kpself-improvement and after his first and second degrees, he has also envolved himself in learning new skills which include but are not limited to Certificates in Digital Transformation, Cyber Security, IT Systems Business Analysis and ICT Industry Innovations, Remote Sensing and Geospatial Analysis, IT Troubleshooting Skills, Programming with Python, Microsoft Exchange and Office 365, Digital Media, Big Data Concepts, Networking Fundamentals, Computer Applications, Help Desk Professional Services, Leadership and Project Management, Project Management (Knowledge, skills, tools and techniques), Renewable Energy Sustainability Development, Stakeholders Engagement for Sustainability, Off Grid Solar Energy Systems (Design and Operations), Community Engagement and Sustainability, Media Relations, Skills in Master of Ceremonies and Public Speaking. AYA's Career and Professional Experience include:

 

-AYA is involved with the Power and Energy Sector and participates in the deployment of rural electrification to unserved and underserved communities in Nigeria through the Rural Electrification Agency where he is a Deputy Director and Head of Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) using disruptive technology to drive the Agency’s Digital Transformation.

 

-He was elected pioneering National President of the Federal University of Technology, Minna Alumni Association in 2017 – 2020. The association has approximately 100,000 members in Nigeria and the Diaspora.

 

-He is a Consultant with experience in Grants Management and Financial Consultancy.

 

- He has impacted his positive contributions in Information and Communication Technology, International Affairs and Diplomacy as well as in Public Affairs.

 

- AYA trained close to 8,000 youth during his tenure as Coordinating Secretary and Vice Chairman of the best empowerment scheme in Nigeria called the Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES)which is Motivated by Distinguished Senator Zaynab Abdulkhadir Kure.

 

Love for Human Development:

 

AYA’s desires at all times is to impact positive experiences to the development of individuals, companies and organisations, and he always has a strong love for his constituency.

 

Over the years, he has developed excellent communication and interpersonal skills, which has allowed him to create and maintain effective working relationships with people at all levels. He has travelled the country and the world extensively.

 

His objective is to continue to secure portfolios of responsibility, while actively participating and contributing to the development of the constituency, State, organisations and people.

 

A summary of positive experiences gained over several years of dedicated service to humanity are as follows;

 

- (2021 to date) Deputy Director and Head of Department ICT

 

-(2013 to 2021) Assistant Director at Rural Electrification Agency.

 

-(2012- 2013) Vice President, (Production) ACT Technologies Limited. His role here was to see to the actualisation of plans for production of the Permanent Voters Card (PVC).

 

Monitor, manage and allocate efficient resources for human, material and equipment for the production of the PVC.

 

-(2007-201) he served in various capacities as a Consultant on Information and Communication Technology with the Ministry of Science and Technology, Supervision of Training of Niger State Civil Servants on e-Compliance and Computer appreciation, nominated as a member of the Technical Committee/team to develop the Niger State Digital (ICT) Park consisting of Knowledge Lab, 100km WiMAX wireless WIFI, Maintenance Labs, Prometric Centre amongst other things.

 

-(2009) He was appointed as a member of the National Sports Commission Abuja, Local Organising Committee ICT sub-Committee for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, which was hosted in October 2009. 

 

They saw to the actualisation of all the plans for complete deployment of nationwide IT equipment and resources for the tournament.

 

- (1999 - 2006) Senior Special Assistant - Office of the Governor-Government House, Minna, Niger State. AYA was involved with administrative assignments and duties, personal assistant activities and representative roles. 

 

He was the pioneering Coordinating Secretary of the Youth Empowerment Scheme – Project YES and rose to become its Vice Chairman, a role which saw the coordination of training and establishment into viable trades of well over 8,000 youth.

 

-(1989-1999) he was involved in the following:

 

- Software Development Officer, UNION BANK OF NIGERIA Computer Centre, where he developed important software applications for the bank. 

 

He also participated as a key team member in the development of the Staff Details STF, Williams Street & Union Trustees portfolio management Software Application.

 

-AYA was at one time a teacher of Mathematics (Teaching Experience) at WOMWN TEACHERS COLLEGE, MINNA.

 

-As an ICT Trainer, he was the Manager, Training & Software Development at NASCENT UNIVERSAL COMPUTER SERVICE (NUCS), LAGOS and Coordinator of Computer Services, for NEW VENTURES LIMITED, MINNA, NIGER STATE.

 

He managed the training & software development for the company. 

 

He coordinated the affairs of the computer school development of programmes for the expansion of the company and arranged external corporate training.

 

-AYA owns several computer outfits such as AY TECHNOLOGIES LIMITED and Cyberlima Nigeria Limited. 

 

He proffered and implemented processes for advancement of Information Technology in Niger State as well as organized seminars and corporate training.

 

People Skills:

AYA has the requisite people skills: He has travelled extensively to all continents except Australia; this has built in him the zeal and understanding to work with people from all walks of life, race and creed. 

 

This is further enhanced by the courses taken in International Affairs and Diplomacy. He is a team player and has worked and served in different states and Federal Government Agencies, as well as both private and public committees.

 

ICT Skills:

AYA is an experienced Information and Communication guru and has the dream of pioneering the expansion of ICT in all the Local Governments in his constituency.

He has used his passion and wealth of experience in various fields to establish online foundations such as:

 

-Founder FUT Minna Alumni – a Facebook based Online Network for Alumni of FUT Minna, with membership from Alumni all over the world.

 

-Founder of AZZA ONLINE, an online platform to unite and make communications easier for members from Azza area of Lapai local government of Niger state.

 

-Founder of GRAB – Give and Read A Book Facebook initiative to encourage people to build libraries, read books, donate books, etc.

 

Hobbies:

AYA loves to read books, write articles and poetry. He loves to travel having done so extensively around the world and visiting almost all the continents of the world. He plays Scrabble, Chess, Monopoly and some card games, He plays Lawn Tennis and listens to a variety of music genres.
