Prof. Adamu Idris Manarakis, Prolific Nupe Indigenous Writer, Founder/Director Indigenous Languages Learning Centre (ILLEC) and Tashiru Nupe
Professor (Honourary) Adamu Idris Manarakis, Nupe Indigenous Writer (niw), Tashiru Nupe and Founder/Director Indigenous Languages Learning Centre (ILLEC), was born and bred in Kpakungu, Minna, Niger State, on 6th May, 1988 to the blessed family of a Jurisprudent and great Historian of Nupe Dynasty (Bida Kingdom), Alhaji Idris Muhammad Bida (N'One) and a Trader, Hajiya Sa'adatu (Yannagi).
The young Manarakis had his elementary education at Limawa Model Primary School, Minna. He gained admission into Ahmadu Bahago Secondary School, Minna, where he obtained the Junior secondary school certificate in 2005 and proceeded to Government Technical College Eyagi, Bida, for his SSCE Certificate in 2008. He earned a Certificate in Education from the Niger State College of Education Minna, in 2011, and finished first Degree from FUT Minna, in 2018 from the Department of Industrial Technology Education. He later went for a skill learning on Policy Communication for Journalism in Michigan State University in 2018. He loves affinity with students, especially primary school pupils. His dream is to keep pen, chalk and marker flowing, and change gloom to light.
He started from the rudimentary level and taught in several schools such as; Medal Model School, CAC, Hossana N/P School, Kowa Schools Minna, he also taught in Government Girls Secondary School, Old Airport road, Minna and he was a visiting lecturer with Minna Institute of Technology and Innovation. Currently, he works with Prestige 91.7 FM Radio Minna as a Nupe News Broadcaster and Presenter. He also took appointment with Niger State College of Education Minna as a resource person lecturing Nupe Language Students on 6th October, 2021.
Recently, Manarakis established the first Nupe Language School that began in November, 2016. He spread the wings to Bida as a Centre in October, 2017 and now the first Language Institute in Niger State situated at Kowa Schools as the temporary site which was named ILLEC. He also ventured to publishing the first online Nupe Newspaper and now the many Hardcopies are available from the month of August 2020 till date.
He started writing in 2008, with an unpublished Mathematics Work-Book for Junior secondary schools, Basic Technology and later wrote for Nursery Pupils too. He titled the Books Basic Arithmetics and Basic English Skills. He joined the Association of Nigerian Authors in 2010 and is the brain behind 'Nipping the Nimble' (An Anthology) and the co-Editor of 'The Race of a Chameleon' (An Anthology). He also wrote a Book titled; Ndagi Be Nnagi, Marriage Doesn't Stop Schooling, and Kayan Mata, a culture-scientific exposition of ladies.
He also writes in his native Nupe Language publishing the first Nupe Mathematics book titled, 'Enyabagi Nupe' with words and Numerals in 2018; 'Nupe Ta - Nupe Grammar I' in 2018, Edited Nupe Short Stories; 'Ecingi Nupe Tashiru' (Anthology), Nupe Poems 'Soko Deke' (Anthology); Tribute to Etsu Yahaya Abubakar (Anthology); The 13th Etsu Nupe's Brief History, and 'Yogo Nna Zakama', etc.
Currently, he is working assiduously on some other books titled; 'Cincin Mi Be Labi'; 'Marriage after PhD'; 'Death Took Over'; 'Pen is my investment'; 'Pen is in Pain'; 'Teacher Yekondunu', 'My Mentor, Soko a Kpa'; 'Eye Lashi Soko a, Nupe Dictionary, Nupe Documentary and Nupe Grammar & Vocabulary Volume II, among many others.
Apart from Nupe, his first language, Manarakis speaks Hausa, Arabic, Yoruba and English partially. He has traveled to several states in Nigeria, which Include; Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Kano, Kaduna, Kebbi, Edo, Lokoja, Kwara, Jos, Bauchi, Enugu and FCT, among many others.
He is an active member of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Niger Chapter, with some awards to his name including the First Modern Nupe Crusader; the First Nupe Mathematician; the first Nupe Language Honourary Professor among others. The father of Adnan and Ndagana is a graduate of the Federal University of Technology Minna, Faculty of SSTE, Department of ITE. He is the first Secretary General of Ena Yegborolo Nya Nupencizhi Minna and the Director of Indigenous Languages Learning Centre (ILLEC), Minna, established in November 2016.
Manarakis has organised Nupe Language workshops across the country at Limawa School, GGSS Old Airport Road Minna, BSS Minna, Chanchaga Community Bida, LSS Lafiyagi Kwara State, and Kaduna.
By God's grace and the Prophets of Islam, accolades go to who-is-who in Nupe Kingdom, the Etsu Nupe, HRH Alhaji Dr. Yahaya Abubakar for his efforts towards the approval and inclusion of Nupe Language with Federal Polytechnic Bida, College of Education Minna and IBBU Lapai which will commence soon in a proper academic session.
