Canada's Visa Snub: A Call to Strengthen Nigeria's Sovereignty

~~ Ahman Makams

The recent incident where Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff and other top military officers were denied visas to Canada is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by Nigerians seeking to travel or relocate to developed nations. While many Nigerians are eager to leave the country due to poor leadership, rising crime rates, and widespread poverty, the reality is that not everyone is granted the opportunity to do so.

The denial of visas to these military officers serves as a wake-up call for Nigeria to focus on strengthening its sovereignty and building a strong nation that does not rely on validation from foreign countries. It highlights the need for Nigeria to address the underlying issues that drive its citizens to seek greener pastures abroad, such as corruption, lack of infrastructure, and insecurity.

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, was right to condemn Canada's decision and urge Nigeria to stand strong as a nation. It is time for Nigerian leaders to work together to rebuild the country and create a better future for its citizens. Rather than seeking opportunities overseas, Nigerians should focus on building a prosperous and peaceful nation at home.

The rejection of visas by Canada may be a blessing in disguise, as it forces Nigeria to confront its challenges and work towards a better future for all its citizens. It is a reminder that the solution to Nigeria's problems lies within the country itself, and that only through strong leadership and determination can real change be achieved.
