This week, Take My Gist (TMG) proudly recognizes Hannatu Musa Musawa as our Person of the Week. 

Hannatu Musa Musawa is a prominent Nigerian lawyer, politician, and author who currently holds the position of Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy in Nigeria. Hailing from Katsina State in the northern region of the country, she is a member of the Hausa-Fulani ethnic group.

The daughter of Musa Musawa, a well-known politician who was a member of the Northern Elements Progressive Union and the Peoples Redemption Party, Hannatu Musa Musawa has an impressive academic background. She earned her undergraduate degree in Law from the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom, and went on to pursue two postgraduate Master’s degrees – one in the Legal aspects of Marine Affairs from the University of Cardiff, Wales, and another in Oil & Gas from the University of Aberdeen.

Throughout her career, Hannatu Musa Musawa has excelled in various roles, working as a lawyer in private firms where she provided legal counsel and representation in a variety of matters. She has also showcased her expertise in marine affairs and oil & gas law, demonstrating her capability in these complex areas. Additionally, she is a talented writer, having contributed to the Leadership Newspaper as a columnist.

In 2023, Hannatu Musa Musawa was appointed as Minister by President Bola Tinubu, following her service as his Special Adviser on Culture and Entertainment Economy. In her current role, she is responsible for the advancement and growth of Nigeria's creative sector, as well as the preservation and showcasing of the country's rich cultural heritage.

With a passion for public service and a strong background in law, politics, and culture, Hannatu Musa Musawa continues to make a significant impact in Nigeria's governance and creative industries.
