Just a Thought: The Alarming Rise of Women in Internet Fraud and Drug Use in Nigeria and Ways to Combat the Menace
~~ Salma Ahmad
It is extremely concerning to see women and girls turning to internet fraud and drug use in our society. There could be several reasons why this is happening, such as economic hardship, lack of opportunities for women in certain industries, peer pressure, low self-esteem, and a desire for quick wealth. It is also possible that these women are being influenced by societal norms and expectations that may glorify material wealth and instant gratification.
It is disheartening to hear that even married women are involved in these illegal activities. This could have detrimental effects on their families and communities, leading to broken homes, financial instability, and even health issues.
To address these issues, it is important for the government and law enforcement agencies to crack down on internet fraud and drug trafficking. This can be done through increased surveillance, stricter penalties for offenders, and public awareness campaigns targeting vulnerable populations like women and girls. Additionally, efforts should be made to provide more educational and job opportunities for women, as well as mental health support for those struggling with addiction.
Communities also play a crucial role in preventing these crimes by promoting positive values and ethics, encouraging open communication, and providing support for those in need. By working together, we can stem the tide of internet fraud and drug abuse among women and girls in our society.
