Reflecting on the Inevitability of Death: Today's Jumu'ah Sermon

Today's Jumu'ah sermon focuses on the topic of death, as it is the ultimate reality that every human being will face. As we gather for the first Juma'at of the year 2025, it is important to reflect on what Allah has said in the Quran about death.
In Surah Al-Mulk, Allah reminds us that He is the One who created life and death to test us, so that we may strive to do good deeds and seek His forgiveness (Quran 67:2). In Surah Al-Ankabut, Allah says that every soul will taste death, and we will only receive our full recompense on the Day of Judgment (Quran 29:57). And in Surah Aal-E-Imran, Allah tells us that every soul will taste death and then be returned to Him for judgement (Quran 3:185).
As Muslims, it is important for us to constantly remind ourselves of the inevitability of death, and to strive to do what is right in the eyes of Allah. We must constantly seek repentance for our sins and strive to improve our character and actions. We must remember that death can come at any moment, and we do not know when our time will come.
Our expectations as Muslims from this world to the grave and the Day of Judgment are clear: to lead a righteous life, follow the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah, and seek Allah's mercy and forgiveness. We must constantly strive to improve ourselves and seek to be among those who will be successful in the Hereafter.
As we reflect on the topic of death on this first Juma'at of the English calendar year, let us remember our ultimate purpose in this world, and strive to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to Allah. May Allah guide us and grant us success in this life and the Hereafter. Juma'at Mubaraq to all.
